Dry Processing Equipment for Kenya, Uganda & Ethiopia

East Africa’s coffee sector is growing. Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia are producing more coffee, and buyers are demanding stricter quality standards. The dry processing stage is where much of that quality is won or lost. We are a Chinese manufacturer of coffee bean cleaning, hulling, polishing, and grading machinery. We do not process fresh cherries. Our equipment starts with dried parchment coffee or dried cherry coffee and delivers export-ready green beans.

Kenya: Precision for Specialty Grades

Kenya produces Arabica coffee and grades it by screen size: AA, AB, PB, and lower grades. AA and AB lots often earn strong premiums, especially at auction. But many dry processing facilities face excess capacity and need to maximize recovery from every bag of parchment. Our hullers are calibrated to reduce bean breakage, while our screen graders produce clean AA, AB, and PB cuts. Gravity separators remove light and immature beans that can damage cup quality. For Kenyan processors, this precision is essential.

Uganda: Scaling Up for Volume and Value

Uganda’s coffee is mostly Robusta, usually natural-processed. Export grades include SCR 18, SCR 15, SCR 12, and BHP, while Arabica follows AA/AB/PB. Uganda aims to reach 20 million bags annually by 2030, and processors need affordable, reliable equipment. We offer hulling and grading lines from 1 TPH to 5 TPH. Pre-cleaners, destoners, hullers, and screen graders help cooperatives and exporters meet contract specifications with lower operating costs.

Ethiopia: Protecting Quality from Parchment to Export

Ethiopia’s dry processing sequence is critical. It includes pre-cleaning, hulling, polishing, size grading, density sorting, color sorting, and hand sorting. Moisture must not exceed 11.5%, and Grades 1–5 are generally exportable. Poor hulling can break beans and turn a Grade 1 lot into a lower grade. Our polishers use low-temperature airflow to protect bean quality. Our multi-deck graders separate beans by size, and gravity separators remove defective beans that cause off-flavors. We have over 100 coffee processing lines installed in Ethiopia and Uganda.

The Dry Processing Line We Provide

A complete line can include:

  • Pre-cleaning: removes dust, sticks, and light material

  • Destoning: removes stones before they damage the huller

  • Hulling: removes parchment or dried husk with minimal breakage

  • Polishing: improves appearance while preserving quality

  • Size grading: produces AA, AB, PB, SCR 18/15/12, and other cuts

  • Density sorting: removes lightweight and immature beans

  • Color sorting: optional final quality control

Capacities range from 1 TPH to 5 TPH. Our equipment is designed for separation efficiency above 95%, bean damage below 0.5%, and stable continuous operation.
